A huge moment of gratitude to be recognized by @nbcbayarea as part of their AAPI Heritage Month series ✨ The calm in the middle of all the chaos. Did a kutti thing among the many other small and big things this weekend.. Someday I will look back and acknowledge how crazy life was in this moment, but currently filled with gratitude to be able to soak in all things dance as a student, rasika, curator and dancer #danceisbae #varnamisbecomingsecondbae #slowandsteady Been thinking about my 20 year old self and how I propagated hard work over everything else. More recently, I’ve been thinking of working smart in addition to working hard and knowing when to do more of which. A recent performance by my students where each of them did a solo, working very differently towards it, made this more obvious to me. Repeating a piece everyday definitely ensures the endurance to do it easily during performance. But doesn’t change what happens within that piece.. Dance after all isnt exercise where the music is just there to push you through to the finish. Thinking through a piece, every moment, every transition, helps it evolve into a visual. But if you don’t have the stamina to push through, it isn’t going to translate or be feasible to execute your thoughts into action. What do you struggle more with? Taken me 2 years but finally learning to prioritize myself and say no sometimes. Both very much works in progress ✨ 📸 @rishi.dancer.photographer Throwback to some new work that never saw the light of day. Excited to revisit these ideas and see how much of the way I see it has changed with me :) Some moments from “Pooje” presented last weekend as part of the BASE residency by @pushdance I’m excited to invite and share with you, “POOJE,” a work in progress piece developed during my time at the BΛSE Residency over the last 2 months. Excerpt from Yasmin Nrityati.
