Being Ready

Posted on October 5, 2017October 5, 2017 by Nitya Narasimhan in Uncategorized

A few years back, I would have jumped at an opportunity to teach dance. In my head, it was just an opportunity to dance. In fact I remember I started a small informal dance class at Oracle. It was a way for me to be in touch with my bharatanatyam and I gladly grabbed the … Continue reading Being Ready →

Professionalism

Posted on August 22, 2017 by Nitya Narasimhan in Dance

This blog is about something that has been eating into my mind off late. It is alsoĀ a question that a lot of people have asked me and one that I wish to pen my thoughts about. What does it mean to take danceĀ as a profession? 10 years ago, this was a big no-no, something that … Continue reading Professionalism →

Rasa : My thoughts on feelings

Posted on March 22, 2017March 23, 2017 by Nitya Narasimhan in Dance

Rasa refers to the emotions evoked in the audience as they watch a performer. The word "Rasa" literally translates to mean juice, essence or taste. We can interpret this in an artistic context to mean the essence of the performance as perceived by the audience. Rasa, more famously known through the nava rasas is often thought … Continue reading Rasa : My thoughts on feelings →

Happy birthday my furever baby 😘 I love you to the moon and back. When I got desperate and danced to a trikala jathi just before stepping out (aka forever ready before sarvesh) without any warm up or any preparation after 8 frustrating days of sickness + clingy child care. Someone cooperated and chilled out for 2 minutes and made this possible for which I am grateful. Will post my attempt at doing a second jathi sometime when the foreground protest got louder than the background music šŸ˜‚ Feeling excited and hopeful as I launch the renewed vision for @prayuktiarts today. Bhairavi Swarajathi Who am I? šŸ˜… #aworkinprogress This ragam is just ā™„ļø Heart is full ā™„ļø It’s been a heavy kinda day.. This was the only respite. The second half of a varnam has always had some kind of effect on my energy. Danced this over and over until I could feel momentarily light in my heart and escape from the absolutely horrifying politics that is going on in this goddamned country! Back to feeling the knot in my chest now. Seriously, what is going on and how is this okay?! It’s been a while since I have performed on stage but there’s a lot of joy I have rediscovered through and in dance the past few months.
